Sixth Reflection Paper

On 19th March's class we did the revisit of the previous lesson. After that sir gave us 10 minutes to do a group activity where we have to teach English and Computer Inductively. In English we decided to teach on the topic Elements of the Short Story. Here we would ask the students that do they like to read short stories or not. Than we would ask them to name the few short stories that they had read, and as non- examples we would ask, whether essay or letter writing is a short story? If no, than we would tell them that essay and letter are non- examples of short stories. After the discussion we pasted our work on the wall and was to move around and observe our friend's work. After that we supported our points by telling how our topic is relevant to be taught inductively.
Thank You.

Fifth Reflection Paper

Continuation of the presentation to the home group from 14th march on 15th march.

Purpose Of Teaching or Learning Strategy

  • It is to motivate students to compete, cooperate and achieve goals.
  • Students will be grouped together to learn.
  •  It enhances class participation.
  •  Students should work as a team to achieve a common goal.
  •  It makes the class entertaining and interesting.
  • They have to discover course context for themselves.
  •  Students learn by doing.
  •  It allows the students to think (independent life long learner).
  • Student centered- learning.

Phases In Inductive Teaching or Learning Strategy

  • Phase I - Open ended phase, its shows the students the examples and the non- examples. In this phase they need to provide lots of examples time and again.
  • Phase II – Convergent phase, here the teacher have to prompt the students to identify patterns in the example provided.
  •  Phase III – Closure phase, here the teacher has to give the correct definition of the topic taught.
  • Phase IV – The application phase, have to apply the definition of the topic and relate it to the real life situation.

Role of teachers
Inductive teaching(constructist class)
- Role of the teacher is to allow the learners to discover and experience on their own.
  • Provide guide(scaffolding). Scaffolding means breaking complex questions in simple questions and asking it back to the students, so that they can discover/ dig out the answer for themselves.
  • Coaching, the teacher instructs the students and the students have to perform according to the instruction.
  • Prompting and facilitating, the teacher encourages the students and directs them by giving hints and providing feedbacks. thus, allowing students to use learning materials.
  • Teacher minimizes authority, this study in based on student centered learning.

Advantages of Inductive teaching or learning strategy

  • Involves observation inference classification in comparison. Its means finding out something from what you already know.
  •  Can be used in all levels of study at varying degree.
  •  Incorporating all the questioning including prompting, probing and content review. This will encourage students to ask more questions.
  • Discourages wild guessing as it needs evidence.
  • It motivates children to find and learn more.

Disadvantages of Inductive teaching or learning strategy

  • Time consuming.
  • Minimizes the content coverage.
  •  It needs verification, it should have valid answer.
  •  Frustrating for different students. Slow learners won’t be able to cope up with fast learners.
  •  All topics cannot be taught inductively.

Fourth Reflection Paper

In 14th March's session we were taught about Inductive Teaching Strategy. It has six sub headings as follows, 1) Concept Of Inductive Teaching/ Learning Strategy, 2) Purpose of inductive teaching/ learning strategy, 3) Procedural steps of Inductive Teaching/ Learning strategy, 4) Role Of teachers, 5) Merits and Demerits of the strategy and 6) Model lessons.

Concept of Inductive Teaching/ Learning Strategy.
It means discovery or inquiry teaching, it is an inquiry or discovery based learning whereby it leads learners from what is known to unknown. Here the teacher is almost consistent and the students do research, explore and present it to the whole class. It is mainly about self- discovery, here students are free to ask as many question as possible to the teachers.
It's a teaching in which teacher provides only specific views so, that the students can do research by themselves.
It is further divided into two topics, Guided and Unguided.

Guided
Teacher provide the students with hints, feedbacks and information and also clarify doubts, for this the students should think out of box.

Unguided
Teacher will just give specific topics, students have to observe, do research and go for field trips and share your observation.

Features of Guided Inductive Teaching.
Learners progress from information/ data, they compare and contrast.
Teacher control the situation.
Teacher encourages the students to learn and work on their own.

Features of Unguided Inductive Teaching
Students have to bring their doubts to the teacher, teacher won't ask the students whether they have any doubt or not.
It is more student centered learning.

Thank You.

Third Reflection Paper

In 12th March's class we began with a short meditation, the class started after shuffling of the groups. There after we revisited the meaning of the words such as Strategy i.e. plan an action; Method i.e. achieving certain things with ordered sequence of fixed steps, and Skills i.e. the ability of doing something well.

We learned what is teaching strategy? It means, it aims at learners to achieve mastery of specific objectives.

Teaching method is a way of using teaching strategies in different kind of situations to modify behaviors of the learners.

Where as teaching skills means the use of techniques to carry out activity to obtain desired goals.

Thank You.

Second Reflection paper

In the 8th March's class we discussed about five words, i.e.:1) Strategy 2) Method 3) Approach 4) Skills 5) Technique.
Strategy means to achieve something over a long/ short period of time. It means to plan an action.
Method and Approach are synonyms so, it means it's a way of doing. Eg: If there are 30 students in a class there may be thirty different methods but, there will be only one approach of an individual.
Skills and Technique are also synonyms, meaning it's an ability that enables us to do something/ usually a method that involves practical skills.
Thank you.

First Reflection paper

On the 7th March 2012 we had our first class on Teaching Strategy (EDN 205), we did meditation and learned about being mindful of our deed. I found a tough time concentrating on my breathing because my eyes were becoming heavier and eventually I found myself falling asleep but, I again tried to make myself alert by trying to focus on breathing and time and again I got distracted. After the meditation was over I found my head a bit heavier. Than we rested fora while and started introducing ourselves.

Thank you.
