Continuation of the presentation to the home group from 14th march on 15th march.
Purpose Of Teaching or Learning Strategy
- It is to motivate students to compete, cooperate and achieve goals.
- Students will be grouped together to learn.
- It enhances class participation.
- Students should work as a team to achieve a common goal.
- It makes the class entertaining and interesting.
- They have to discover course context for themselves.
- Students learn by doing.
- It allows the students to think (independent life long learner).
- Student centered- learning.
Phases In Inductive Teaching or Learning Strategy
- Phase I - Open ended phase, its shows the students the examples and the non- examples. In this phase they need to provide lots of examples time and again.
- Phase II – Convergent phase, here the teacher have to prompt the students to identify patterns in the example provided.
- Phase III – Closure phase, here the teacher has to give the correct definition of the topic taught.
- Phase IV – The application phase, have to apply the definition of the topic and relate it to the real life situation.
Role of teachers
Inductive teaching(constructist class)
- Role of the teacher is to allow the learners to discover and experience on their own.
- Provide guide(scaffolding). Scaffolding means breaking complex questions in simple questions and asking it back to the students, so that they can discover/ dig out the answer for themselves.
- Coaching, the teacher instructs the students and the students have to perform according to the instruction.
- Prompting and facilitating, the teacher encourages the students and directs them by giving hints and providing feedbacks. thus, allowing students to use learning materials.
- Teacher minimizes authority, this study in based on student centered learning.
Advantages of Inductive teaching or learning strategy
- Involves observation inference classification in comparison. Its means finding out something from what you already know.
- Can be used in all levels of study at varying degree.
- Incorporating all the questioning including prompting, probing and content review. This will encourage students to ask more questions.
- Discourages wild guessing as it needs evidence.
- It motivates children to find and learn more.
Disadvantages of Inductive teaching or learning strategy
- Time consuming.
- Minimizes the content coverage.
- It needs verification, it should have valid answer.
- Frustrating for different students. Slow learners won’t be able to cope up with fast learners.
- All topics cannot be taught inductively.
